WHAT WENT ON
OCTOBER HAPPENINGS
October started of much like September, in a whirlwind. The first week was full of meetings and conversations with ministries, friends, family, and news sources.
As a family we have made the decision to no longer be resident missionaries in Puerto Rico. Our work within the Caribbean will continue with Michigan being our home base for now.
Our relief works started as soon as we got home.
Thursday the 6th we held an informational and interest meeting at Barnabas and another Sunday the 8th at Moran Park Church. We have a total of 48 people who have signed up from those meetings who have a desire to help in relief efforts.
Richard and Mayselle called Jennifer sharing how bad things are and how they felt about Puerto Ricos long term situation. They had made the decision to leave the island permanently. They had asked about moving to Michigan and have made the decision to move their entire family up to Michigan. We are excited to continue ministering to this family once they get here to Michigan. They arrive November 9.
Sunday the 8th Jennifer and the kids went to a home of a family who had collected personal hygiene products, batteries and flash lights from co-workers at Zeeland Hospital. We packed 75 bags and were able to include a water filter in each bag thanks to a large donation to purchase those. We were also able to purchase chain saws to send down for relief work as well. We shipped out 13 relief packages in our first shipment.
We were able to ship out to more chain saws to Orlando who lives in Dorado. We have shipped two 16 inch an two 20 inch saw to get through large trees.
Jennifer and John had a meeting with Grand Valley State University and they would like to take a team of students down to Puerto Rico for Spring break on a mission trip. We are having continued talks with them about this.
We were able to purchase and ship out 50 more water filters later in the month and some mosquito nets thanks to another donation. We went to Business Connect World in Grandville Michigan to pick up the filters.
On Oct. 26 John left for four days to spent time with our covering Church, In His Presence Worship Center in Carrollton, GA. His time was spent sharing what the future of our ministry may look like and preached at church on Sunday. His message was, God’s faithfulness never fails, even when ours does.
