A Filipino pastor friend is developing some property to use for a camp ministry and has asked for our help. My coworker, Leo Diawa, is guiding the work of improving the land for use as a campsite and retreat area for churches to use. We are praying that God will help us prepare 10 tents on the site to hold 10-12 campers each. The eating and meeting areas are already provided. Each tent will be made with a steel pipe frame, covered with tarpaulin, and a simple bamboo or cement floor. The cost of each tent is $200, for a total project cost of $2,000. We are praying that this need will be met by the end of March, so the tents can be constructed in time for evangelism camp in April. Five area churches will each take turns using use these facilities for their own summer camping programs. Our own evangelism camp combines campers from six of our churches. At evangelism camp, each camper memorizes Gospel verses and a simple method for explaining the Gospel. Campers practice sharing the Gospel with each other throughout the week. Two-thirds of the campers come to camp as unbelievers. Through this indirect method of evangelism, many of these campers discover their own need for Christ and trust in Christ as Savior while at camp. Between one-third and one-half of the youth in our churches can trace the beginning of their faith in Christ to evangelism camp.
